Book characters — Your jungle friends
Fishscale Girl™ (La Chiquita Escamosa™) is a native of the rainforest in the Amazon and Napo Rivers region of Peru. Her body is a scale from an Amazon fish, the South American lungfish. She carries the heart and memory of the river and its people with her wherever she goes. Read about her adventures in the Fishscale Girl book series and her blog.
Cochiy, parrot of the Amazon River rainforest, is a great friend of Fishscale Girl and often accompanies her on her adventures. A scarlet macaw (Ara macao), Cochiy’s name is the Yagua word for macaw or parrot.

Tapir, a South American or Brazilian tapir (Tapirus terrestris), is another great friend of Fishscale Girl. Tapir was carved by a member of the Yagua community. As a plant-eater, Tapir’s snout is highly useful for finding and grabbing food.

Three dolls join Fishscale Girl — Juanita, Rosita, and Sintia — and bring their knowledge, skills, and love to respond to this disaster. The torso of each doll is an un-dyed fish scale and is hand-made by a young member of the Yagua community in the Amazon and Napo Rivers region of the Peruvian rainforest.
Loro, parrot of the Amazon River rainforest, is a great friend of Cochiy, Sintia, and Tapir and is often found at Sintia’s riverside home. A blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), Loro’s name is the Spanish word for macaw or parrot.
